Abstract

Costa Rica faces a critical crossroads in pension matters. Over the last decade, its pension system has undergone profound changes: accelerated growth in managed funds, the introduction of complex global investments, and challenging demographic trends. Currently, Costa Rican pension fund assets are equivalent to almost half of the national GDP (Superintendency of Pensions, 2024), and they continue to grow rapidly.
