FINANCIAL REGULATION AND SUPERVISION: PROTECTION OR OVERLOAD?
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the area of regulation and supervision of the financial system, the debate about the scope of regulation and supervision is not only natural but also necessary. On the one hand, regulated entities tend to express concern about the regulatory burden, arguing that excessive regulation limits their ability to operate efficiently and competitively. On the other hand, authorities seek to strengthen the regulatory framework to ensure the stability of the system and the protection of public savings. Both positions are understandable and legitimate because they reflect interests that, although distinct, are socially relevant. The challenge is not to take sides, but to establish a balance that harmonizes the objectives of financial stability with the need to maintain an environment conducive to innovation, inclusion, and profitability, which is achieved through effective regulation.
