Impacts and opportunities of digital disruption on the modern socioeconomic landscape

Abstract

The  fact  that  there  is  a  compositional  dichotomy  that  describes  the  behaviorofthe  modern economic   environment   (traditional   and   digital elements   of   the   economy),   allows   for   the manifestation  of  cognitive  imbalances  (digital  gaps)whose  margin  of  difference  can  cause  the emergence  of  inequalities,  between  those  individuals  or  social groups  with  greater  access  to information  technologies,and those  for whom  theconditions  of  access  or theknowledge  about said  toolsis  not  adequate.  For  this  reason,  it  is  imperative  to  raise  awareness  about  the challenges and opportunities that arisefrom digital disruption, as well as to discuss issues such as: the  needs  for  digitization  and  banking  of  the  economies  of  the  countries,  the  essential institutional  requirements  for  the  development  of  specialized public  policiesin  a post-COVID-19context,  the  development  of  a  common  framework  for  the  regulation  ofcross-border  trade  in digital goods and services, and the importance of strengthening the commitments acquired in the multilateral  trade  framework.From  a  critical  perspective,  it  is  feasible  toconceive  solutions  that respond to the current and future challenges that the digital disruption of technologies generates on the landscape of a digitized and globalized economy.
